big cook little cook

hey beautiful reader..

how is things going?

about a week ago, i had an epiphany..

I was on one of my youtubers binge where i go through every single youtube video a youtuber has ever made and this time it was the beautiful Nikki Phillippi ... and this epiphany was pretty much that i needed to get back into the gym, i needed to eat healthier and i needed to get my booty on a motivational wagon.

So the next day i was back in the gym but the biggest change.... is that i have been making is with my diet.

I have always liked cooking, but my idea of a healthy meal was salad from a bag, or said salad on a baked potato, or soup!

but in this past week i have made vegetable naan bread pizza, and home made vegetable soup, and i really do think ive done a good job at them.

here are some pictures of my creations and the foodies i used :)

* I used half of one red onion, 2 slices of breaded ham, cubes of fetta cheese, one piece of naan bread, a sprinkling of basil, tomato puree, half of one red pepper and a sprinkle of parsley and oregano. *

* All prepared and ready to go into the oven *

* All cooked and ready to eat- it was very scrumptious *

* For the vegetable soup i used 1 Red onion, 1 clove of Garlic, 1tsp of mild curry powder, 1 large Potato, Broccoli, Carrots, Celery, Salt, Pepper and Parsley *

* Cooking away *

* The meal was for myself and my flatmates, and we had it with warm baguette, cheese and ham *

* All ready to eat :) - The taste of celery was quite strong, but i like celery so that was okay  :) *

These make nice additions to my short list of things i can really cook haha :)
next week i want to make stuffed peppers with cous cous :)

see you in the next blog post :)  xxxxxx

Can you cook? whats your go to recipe to make? what is on your food bucket list to learn to make?

its all about the nails.

Have i seen you here before?

These nail blog posts are becoming a regular thing of mine.. i hope you dont mind. I just LOVE to take photos of my nails when there all nicely painted and shiny. - it makes me happy :)

maybe i need a name for a series of nail posts, after all i can tell you now there will be more :)

As i mentioned in my last blog post, i recently bought two new nail varnishes, and i am one of those people that when i buy new nail varnishes i dont want to wear another nail polish until i have tried the new ones i have out..

The colours which i bought were both from the BarryM line and both blues.
i dont know why but i am loving the colour blue lately, i feel that its a very serene colour, depending on which shade you have..

so the 2 shades i have are blue glitter and blueberry, i have already talked about blue glitter, in a previous blog post, but that was a very electric, sparkly rocker blue,
whereas my next polish was a more calm, springy, pastel blue.
(do you guys play draw free? it reminds me of one you'd find in the beach package of colours)

I applied the colour on tuesday night, and in 3 days my left hand practically completely un chipped (with the exception of inevitable wear and tear at the top of my nail) and on my right hand- which is the hand i use to write and do most of the 'heavy lifting' with, and so this hand has chipped a little.. but all in all i am so impressed with the lasting power of this polish,

I always think that BarryM nail polishes succeed in the 'colour' department, but this polish has completely out done any idea i had at how long this nail polish would last :)

I really think that this colour is so perfect for spring, i know neon's are really hot right now, but i am so standard and love the pastel colours and florals... so be prepared to see more pastels and lots of florals in the next couple months :)

what colours or prints do you guys think are hot this season for spring?

Thanks for reading :)

SLACKER! and Nails! :)

I have been the biggest slacker going these past two weeks!

When i first sat down and started this blog and wrote my first blog post i had so many high expectations of myself. i have completely let myself down.. i have no excuses, but an explanation-
well when i put up my last post on the 10th of April it was my last week at home before coming back up to university for my final term, so as you can imagine my week was full of seeing my family and my friends, and then on the 20th of April it was my 19th birthday and  then on the Sunday i came back up to my uni halls and that my beautiful reader is where i am typing this from now.
I have now been at uni for a week, and this week has been spent getting back into the swing of things of waking up early(er) and getting stocked up on food for this term and generally catching up with my friends here at uni.

i have utterly neglected blogging and vlogging (total count so far 3:1)

now my explanation has been read... onto the plan!
I plan to write a blog post at least 3 times a week and a video on my youtube channel at least once a week

I dont want to be completely strict on myself with my blogging schedule, i want to enjoy blogging and look forward to doing it as a pose to thinking of it as a job.

now something interesting...?

Nails!

despite the fact that i am freshly back at uni with my loan freshly in my bank.. SHOCKINGLY i have nada money once again, but this didnt stop me popping into superdrug to get a couple nail varnishes..

My absolute favorite brand of nail varnishes has to be the ones from BarryM i own multiple colors from there range and my most recent additions are a beautiful sparkly Blue and a serene pale blue
297 Blue Glitter * 306 Blueberry

*
One thing i have to say i love  about this brand of nail polish is the durability, the fact that any polish i wear from this line always seems to last for a really long time. the 297 Blue glitter is a basic glitter nail varnish, one i think would look beautiful over the 306 Blueberry or infact any bue or any nail paint.

I found that 2 coats was enough to coat my nail with the blue glitter with a few patched where you could see through to my nail, but with a small amount more my nails were left (as above) blue and sparkly!

even though i am sat in jogging bottoms and a baggy lounge top these nails just make me feel so much more happy than when they were plain and simple and boring, these jazz up any old outfit and make me feel a million bucks :)

what nail paint is your go to, feel happy color?

thanks for reading my lovelies :) xxxx

Right now in superdrug all BarryM nail paints are £2.99 and when you buy 2 of them you save £1! http://www.superdrug.com/?gclid=CLf2v5q91q8CFaYJtAod5nWbDQ

splatterofshadow

hey everybody!

I have not blogged in 4 days, and i am beginning to shut down!
when i started this blog i did not realise just how much i would love it, love it so much that after 4 days, i'm having withdrawal symptoms!
*
I wanted to use this blog post to tell my lovely readers about a new project i am starting, its called youtube.. (have you heard of it?)

i very recently started my own channel which i will co-use with this blog, hopefully linking the two of them together like i am doing now.
The name of my channel is splatterofshadow.
i want to use this blog post to let you all know the reasoning behind the name and what the channel will be about, and hopefully at the end of this video you'll click on the link below and check out my channel (current videos: 1).
now splatterofshadow will be mainly a beauty and style related channel, well at the moment thats the plan.

i want to put up videos such as hauls, tags and a few how to's if anyone want me to, as well as a few rambling vlogs which i'd rather film instead of blog about.
now im sure everybody or most of you beauty girls and guys will have heard of the likes of:

i have to say that off the top of y head these are the beauty girls who i have been watching for years and have inspired me to do this myself.
i think Blair was the first beauty girl i watched, followed by Elle and then eventually learning about Ingrid, Fleur, Zoe and Louise later... and i watch all of there videos on a regular basis!
I dont wear a full face of make up or do my hair pretty every single day, but it doesn't stop my enjoyment of watching there videos, and its not only there beauty tricks and tips i enjoy, i read there blogs and watch there vlogs too.

My youtube name is an adaption of Louise's blogging name sprinkeofglitter, i was up for hours trying to think of my own and then ended up changing around a couple words and adapting hers to my now name splatterofshadow, this name i think reflects my style, i am an absolute lover of eye shadows, eye creams, eye liners when i do my make up the whole look is usually created around what color my eye lids will be.

i have massive amounts of respect for the beauty girls, and what they do. im not wanting to make this (doing videos and blogging) a career of mine, im in uni and this is just a hobby which i happen to love.. i really hope you all check out my channel and let me know what you think of it :)

do you have any youtubers you love? what videos do you like on the 'tube'?

Happy Saturday

Filling the time

Puppy Love...

Bruce, less than a year old. Dark Brown coat with lighter brown stripes and a white streak down his neck and stomach. Loves to lick people and jump up on them. A heavy lump who will cause a bruise from standing on your leg. Will sit begging at your feet when you have food, and for some reason has a foot fetish (80% of what i say to him is 'stop licking my feet'). Barks at the TV when a dog comes on screen and runs to window at the sound of danger. He destroys his dog toys within hours of getting them and when he's let of the lead in the dog park he'll run after any old thing until you chase him and bring him back.

Running like the wind on his walk
My dog is a huge part of my life. He may be a tyrant and toerag but i love him.
I was never one of those children who ran away from dogs (from what i can remember) i ran straight towards them. I have always been a friend of the animals, be it cats and dogs and bunny rabbits or the elephants, zebras, lions and tigers you see on the TV and in safari parks on days out. I love animals so much that on new years eve 2010 i decided i no longer wanted to eat them, i became a vegetarian, none of my family are or have been but i made a stand, i was no longer going to eat meat and then 11 months later after lots of Quarn consumption this all came crashing down with the order of a domino's pizza order where i requested tandoori chicken as appose to my regular cheese and tomato. I have definitely considered going back to vegetarianism, especially now i live solo and can food shop what i want, but for now its more practical to be a carnivore. anyway im going off track.... My dog...

I spend months away at university and when i get to come home at Christmas and Easter (im fortunate enough to be friends with someone who actually lives 10 minutes away from where i live and i travel back and forth with her and her dad and get to come home for weekends when she does) i am greeted by my mum standing at the door, arms wide open and after i have put my bags upstairs and had a moment to breathe i will come down into the living room and be 'attacked' by a very excited puppy (i say puppy, hes nearly a year old and huge as can be) wagging his tail, and trying to lick my face whilst running around my feet and jumping on and off the sofa, and if im really (un)lucky he'll even pee a little over me.
After being away for so long ill need to go straight to the kitchen and wash my hands up to the crease in my arm, if i have not mentioned yet i suffer a small irritation of my skin when i am around animal hair, when we first got Bruce this same thing happened but i got use to his fur and the allergy wasnt as bad but after being away and coming back i am covered in small red bumps all over my arms, legs and neck.
Exhausted after a walk
After refreshing my arms ill go and sit on the sofa and look at my beautiful puppy, and i'll realise just how much i have missed being home.

Today i was playing about with my camera and windows movie maker and put together a small video (only a minute long) dedicated to my beautiful Bruce. I will link it below and you can check it out of you like.
The  video took around 40 minutes to make and i am so proud of it, im quite a creative person and i really enjoyed making this video, and after 40 minutes i was inspired to write this blog post about my dear baby.

The feeling of accomplishment after having finished the video was great and i showed both my mum, brother and my step dad (were all equally as obsessed with Bruce as each other) and a bonus, with windows movie maker already on my laptop and youtube being as great as it is it was a completely free way to pass an hour.
*
do you guys have any pets your just as mad about? have you filmed and uploaded pictures or videos of your animals online?
Myself and Bruce chilling on the sofa

hope everyones having a great tuesday :)

The shatter effect nail polish... Dead and gone or just having a little nail nap?

Nails on the mind and polish on the nails...

The shatter effect nail polish trend has been around for a while now, and though i am late on the band wagon i am loving it! I remember the first time i had come across this new type of nail polish. It was over a year ago and i was in a dance class and one of my class mates was showing off her brand new nail polish. From what i recall she had actually bought her shatter effect nail polish from the Barry M collection and the next week another girl in our class had bought the same nail polish and was rocking the look. The whole trend really confused me. I hate it when my nails chip away and i have to go around with my nails looking a state until i find the motivation to strip and repaint my nails and even then, after a day they have already began to chip away and i have to repeat the cycle. This nail polish trend makes your nails look horrifically chipped the moment you put it on! I refused to succumb to the trend and paint my nails with the shatter effect top coat. I went months and months using the same nail polish technique i had always used, coating each nail with the nail paint and keeping my fingers crossed it will last more than a day before they start to look awful again.

L & B Nail polish- Batch #9267*Avon Mosaic effects- Black

Then a week ago, everything changed. After arriving home from uni for the Easter holidays, my mum had brought me a few pieces of make up from Avon (a personal favorite make up brand of mine) as a sort of 'welcome home my child' sort of present. In my bag of goodies i had 2 Kohl eye liners (one black and one gray), a Glimmer stick in black and 2 nail polishes a gorgeous dark green (perhaps not the most appropriate with spring nearing, but still a beautiful color) and the other a bottle Avon mosaic effects in black! At first i felt that i wouldn't really wear the mosaic effect nail polish much, but seeing as my mum had bought this for me, i would wear it at least once whilst i was home for these 3 weeks if anything to be polite and appreciative. So today i decided which color to put under the mosaic effect nail polish (I went with L & B nail polish- Batch #9267 which is a clear glittery nail polish, which before now i have always used to put over the top of other nail polishes to funk them up a bit) i applied around 3 coats of the glitter nail polish to build up a thick undercoat full of glitter and just enough sparkle, then i applied to my nails the mosaic effect nail polish and watched as magic happened before my eyes!
My nails were shattering and beginning to look like small canvases being painted with splishes and sploshes of black paint in random positions and each crack of the black appearing in different places on every nail, making the effect unique on all 10 nails.
One thing i did find is that with the Avon mosaic effect nail polish the thicker i applied the nail polish the better and more distinct the effect. Of course i cant assume that of all top coat nail polishes giving a similar effect as this one will need the same thickness of the coat.
One thing i can say about this nail polish is its incredibly affordable at just £6 and available from either you Avon Representative or from the Avon website (
http://avonshop.co.uk/product/make-up/nails/avon-mosaic-effects-top-coat.html), and right now it is down half price to only £3 and they also offer it in white. This trend may be done and over but i don't agree, To avoid getting tired of this trend make sure you continually mix it up, use the white and black shatter nail polish and experiment with different under coat colors, i know i am looking forward to painting my nails rainbow colors and then applying the mosaic effect nail polish to try something new. This look can turn a cute baby pink or pastel color from looking girly and innocent to edgey and dangerous or someone who likes to paint their nails more dark and mysterious and give them a more feminine girly look to their nails.

Get experimenting girls and guys... this look is not lost, so dust off your shatter effect nail polish from the back of your nail polish collection and get applying.
Have you used the shatter effect nail polishes before? What do you think of them?

Thanks for reading my lovlies :)
